Bandits Attack Abuja Community, Abduct Five Residents
A group of heavily armed bandits, numbering at least 20, launched a devastating attack on the Chikakore community in Kubwa, Abuja, late Sunday night, abducting five individuals, including a family of three and their visitor.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the assailants struck the Health Centre extension area of Chikakore around 11 PM. Among those kidnapped were Adesiyan Akinropo, his wife, their son, and a visiting guest. Another resident from the neighborhood was also taken, bringing the total number of abductees to five.
During the violent raid, a woman sustained a severe head injury after being struck with a gun butt. She was immediately rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, as she was bleeding profusely. Unfortunately, by the time police operatives from the Byzahin division arrived at the scene, the kidnappers had already escaped with their captives.
Residents of Chikakore have expressed deep frustration over the slow response of law enforcement, stating that officers arrived approximately 90 minutes after distress calls were made.
“The bandits have resumed their attacks in Chikakore. We urgently need a permanent police presence in this community. There is already land and a five-bedroom apartment available for the police, but no deployment has been made yet,” a distressed community member shared with Sahara Reporters.
This recent attack has further exacerbated fears about the deteriorating security situation in the area. In January, fleeing bandits from Katsina State detonated explosives near an Islamic school in Kuchibuyi, Bwari Area Council, killing two people.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Josephine Adeh, have been unsuccessful as calls remain unanswered.
**Concerns for Nigerians **
For Nigerians this incident highlights the persistent insecurity plaguing communities back home and raises concerns for the safety of loved ones residing in Nigeria. Many are calling on the government to take more decisive actions to combat banditry and improve security measures in residential areas, especially in the nation's capital.
The Nigerian diaspora community remains deeply connected to events unfolding at home, with many advocating for stronger policies and support to ensure the safety and security of their families and investments in the country.
