A Remarkable Life Remembered: Tribute to Eunice Nkechi Teresa Ideh (1947 – 2022)

With heavy hearts yet deep gratitude, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Eunice Nkechi Teresa Ideh, a woman of unwavering faith, boundless love, and an entrepreneurial spirit that was ahead of her time.

A Life Rooted in Love and Purpose

Born on September 2, 1947, in Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria, to George and Victoria Ayomoh, Eunice was the sixth child in a family deeply rooted in values of hard work and devotion. From an early age, she exhibited a determination that would shape her path and leave a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Her educational journey began at Government School, Boji Boji Agbor, before moving on to Holy Child College, Lagos. The outbreak of the Nigeria-Biafra war altered her path, leading her to complete her secondary education at Mary Mount College in Agbor.

A Journey of Love and Diplomacy

In 1970, at the age of 23, Eunice married Mr. Phillip Ideh of Obi Olihe, Agbor, a union that took her across continents, shaping her as a global citizen and cultural ambassador. As a devoted wife, she accompanied her husband on diplomatic postings to London and Rome, where she embraced new experiences, deepened her faith, and nurtured a growing family.

She was a woman of grace and hospitality, hosting dignitaries, including 10 Nigerian bishops in Rome in 1975, a testament to her warmth and commitment to the Catholic faith.

Her family grew with the birth of four beloved sonsPhillip Junior, Donald, John Mark, and Stephen—each a reflection of her love and resilience.

The Entrepreneur Before Her Time

Long before "side hustles" became a common term, Eunice was a trailblazer in entrepreneurship. From selling kerosene in Agbor as a child to trading fashion, gold, and coral beads during her time in Italy, she was a visionary businesswoman. In 1982, she pioneered one of the first home delivery soft drink services in Lagos, serving residents of 1004 Flats, Victoria Island, a concept decades ahead of its time.

She carried this innovative spirit throughout her life, embracing education and professional growth even later in life. At the age of 69, she enrolled at Hortensia College in Chelsea, furthering her knowledge in hospitality and management while also working at St. Winifred's Catholic Care Home in Chelsea, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning and service.

A Heart Devoted to Faith and Community

Eunice’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. A woman of deep prayer, she was not only a devout worshipper but also an active contributor to community organizations. She served as a school governor at Servite Primary School in Chelsea and was a proud and dedicated member of both The Ika Union of Great Britain and Ireland and The Agbor Daughters Association.

She found joy in the simple yet profound pleasures of life—cherishing her family, praying, caring for children, and preparing her signature pepper soup with Osmada chicken or lamb chops, a dish that warmed the hearts of many.

A Peaceful Transition, A Lasting Legacy

On January 15, 2022, surrounded by the love of her children and relatives, Eunice peacefully transitioned at the age of 74. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit, love, and legacy live on in the countless lives she touched.

She was a pillar of strength, a beacon of wisdom, and a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As we honor Eunice Nkechi Teresa Ideh, we celebrate a life richly lived and beautifully remembered. May her faith, kindness, and entrepreneurial spirit continue to inspire future generations.

Rest in perfect peace, dear Eunice.Your light will never fade.
