visa requirements

NOTE - Change to Visa Requirements. Due to COVID-19, Visa on arrival is now available for a lot of nationalities. Make enquiries as to whether this development is relevant to your country.

Visas are required for entry into Nigeria. Visitor and business visas are available in single or multiple entry form. There are several different types of visas: (1) tourist ( 2)  visitor  (3) business and (see www.nigeria.embassyhomepage.com, or www.nigeriabassyusa.org )


The procedure for each is as follows:
Tourist Visa requires
One completed application form
Passport (ensure it is valid for at least 6 months)
One passport-size  photo
Fee
Onward or return ticket. May also end need hotel reservations

 

Visitor Visa ( valid 3 months and one cannot work )
Provide the nearest Nigerian consulate with:
Passport ( ensure it is valid for  at least 6 months )
Two passport size photos
A copy of your round-trip airline ticket ( or ticket with onward destination)
A letter of invitation from someone ,in Nigeria ( or a letter from your travel agent )
An official bank account statements showing sufficient funds
Proofs of vaccination for yellow fever
Confirmation of a reservation from a hotel in Nigeria.

Persons entering Nigeria on a tourist or visitors visa are not allowed to work or conduct business.
Business Visa ( valid for up to 12 months, multiple entry )
*Passport ( ensure it is valid for at least 6 months )
Two passport size photos
A copy of your round-trip airline ticket ( or ticket with onward destination )
A letter of invitation from someone in Nigeria inviting you to come for business and assuming full financial responsibility for you during your stay
An official bank account statement showing sufficient funds
Proofs of vaccination for yellow fever
Confirmation of a reservation from a hotel in Nigeria.


Subject to regularization ( valid 3 months for people coming to work )
Applicants need the following to receive and STR visa:
Passport ( ensure it is valid for at least 6 months )
A letter of appointment from your organisation
A letter of acceptance of appointment signed by you
A copy of your CV/Resume
Credentials
Three passport size photos.

This visa allows the recipient to work for three months while his/her resident status is being regularized.
TWP ( Temporary Work Permit-valid for 3 months )
A TWP can be, issued to expatriates coming to Nigeria for a brief specialized job.
Cerpack ( Combined Expatriate Residence Permit )
This is the equivalent of a resident permit or an alien card. It allows the recipient to live and work in Nigeria. It is a plastic card that replaces the old paper residence permit and is renewable yearly. You need this as well as a visa unless the Nigerian government has given your organisation an exemption. Applications for visas and inquiries are handled by:

The Nigeria Immigration Service,
Old Secretariat, Block E

Abuja

 

Nigerian embassies are beginning to restrict the issue of visas. If you are a foreigner residing in a country other than that of your national origin, it may be difficult to obtain a visa from the Nigeria Embassy there. Depending on where you are applying and the time of the year, it could take from two days to two weeks to receive a visa. The rules and requirements are subjects to change, so check with the local Nigeria Embassy as early as possible.


Please, remember that is illegal; and unwise to engage in any business activity in Nigeria on a tourist visa
Residence Permits.


Non-ECOWAS foreigners working in Nigeria require a Form (A) residence permit. It is issued for up to two years on the basis that the employer has a valid expatriate quota. Foreigners holding STR visas issued by Nigerian diplomatic missions overseas need to apply to the Nigerian Immigration Service for a residence permit within three months of arrival.


Dependents need a form B residence permit. It is also issued for up to two years. Required documentation includes copies of birth and marriage certificates. Form B residence permit holders may not automatically begin work. In most cases, a change of residence status will be required. Children may attend school without specific permissions or change in status.
